SHCC Scoop - 2 Grand Finals, 1 Prelim – and Presentation Night Speaker Confirmed

It’s Grand Final Weekend, and we’ve got 2 teams through to the last week of the season.  We knew Div 4 were there, but Div 2 made us sweat with a hard fought Preliminary Final win.  Well done to Div 2 Captain Raf and his team to qualify for the GF from 3rd place.

Div 6 had a tough match, but the advantage of finishing Top 2 is getting a 2nd chance, which comes this weekend in their Preliminary Final.  Wishing Div 6 Captain Dharmin and his team the best of luck this weekend.

There were some notable performances last weekend, making this years Glenn Holdstock Player of the Finals winner a tough one to pick.  Div 2’s Madushan’s 65* on a very slow outfield was quite decisive (and brought up 6,000 runs for SHCC), along with Raf’s 4/24 from 10 overs.  Or Aman’s 4/45 ensuring Div 6 didn’t have too big of a chase in their match.

If you are able make your way to one of these 3 matches to support our Club.  Matches start at 1:30pm on both days.

Grand Finals:

Div 2 : vs Kingsgrove CC  Bennett Park Oval 2, Riverwood

Div 4 : vs Ashfeld CC  Croydon Park Oval 2, Croydon Park

Preliminary Final:

Div 6 : vs Belmore Rovers  Kelso 2/3, Panania

Winter Cricket

While our Summer season is coming to an end, Cricket doesn’t end with two Cricket options during the off season.

We usually field sides in the very popular SMCA Winter Competition – a 35 over 1 day match played every 2nd weekend on either Saturday or Sunday.

There are also two Last Man Stands (LMS) Competitions to be held every Sunday from at either Flockhart Park in Croydon Park, or Hammondville Oval in Moorebank.

Start dates have not yet been advised - but get ready - it won't be far away.

Thanks for everyone who has expressed their interest. Please email president@shcc.net.au if you are interested in either competition.

Preliminary Final: Summer Hill 8/165 def Marrickville CC 127

After last weeks fortunate win, Summer Hill were grateful for the opportunity to be playing in a Preliminary Final. Tanzim made a trip up from Melbourne, and got us off to a great start with both he and Arslan ensuring no wickets lost in the first session. The run rate was slow, but so was the outfield. The lush grass of Mackey Park made scoring difficult.

Post drinks we lost 2 quick wickets, with Tanzim and Arslan departing. Madushan got to work, and stuck it out for the entire innings, top scoring for the match with 65*. Arub chimed in with 33, and we had batted out our 60 overs. Back on Sunday to defend 165.

Glenn Holdstock paid a visit on Sunday afternoon, lifting spirits of the team. Marrickville would find the outfield as slow as we did. Our bowlers restricted scoring, boundaries were hard to come by and wickets fell with regularity.

With one session left the equation was simple - Marrickville needed 80 runs from 16 overs with 3 wickets in hand - a tough ask looking at what had happened earlier. Marrickville lifted their run rate, and Raf Bruzzese lifted too, taking 2 lower order wickets and finishing with 4/24 from 10 overs.

It's off to another Grand Final for this team - we can't wait!

Qualifying Final: Summer Hill 134 def by Brighton Lakes 201

Brighton Lakes won the toss and elected to bat first.

Our bowlers worked hard throughout the innings, consistently creating chances and maintaining pressure. Despite the opposition’s opening batsmen showing great patience, we managed to keep the scoring in check. The breakthrough finally came in the 38th over when Ratan bowled their opening batsman. He quickly followed it up with another key wicket, putting us back in the contest.

Aman then produced an outstanding spell, delivering pinpoint inswinging yorkers and finishing as the most successful bowler of the day with 4 wickets. Gourav also made an impact with back-to-back wickets, while Hamza chipped in with the final wicket. Brighton Lakes eventually set a target of 201 runs.

In response, our innings got off to a difficult start, with Aman and Umer falling early. Fatigue from the fielding effort showed, and we were unable to build any substantial partnerships as wickets fell at regular intervals. Hamza (22) and Prabhu (24*) showed some resistance, but we were eventually bowled out in the 56th over, falling 77 runs short of the target.

We now look forward to bouncing back in the Preliminary Final against Belmore Rovers.
