At a perilous 5/38, Gordon steadied the ship for Div 4 in their Grand Final, with a 65 run stand with Samarth Shrivastava, taking SHCC to what would be more than enough runs at 6/103.  A well timed first 50 of the season!

Grand Final: Summer Hill 132 def by Kingsgrove CC 7/246

With uncertainty hanging over the weather for the weekend, Summer Hill's Div 2 side were ready for anything - including being asked to field first. In what looked like a good decision for SHCC, Kingsgrove started very slowing, with the visitors restricting scoring in the first 2 sessions.

The thunder and lightning came, and play was ultimately abandoned with Kingsgrove on 1/108 after 27 overs. We would need to come back tomorrow to a reduced over match - and Kingsgrove well behind the game in a 45 over per side match.

With 9 wickets in hand and 18 overs to play, Kingsgrove approached the day like a T20 match - and they took off like a rocket, piling on 140 runs with the loss of 6 more wickets. Raf Bruzzese was the best of the bowlers with another 4 wickets in a finals match. We had a target of 247 for a win from 45 overs.

Losing our first wicket on 0 was not a great start, but Madushan and Muhammed steadied the ship, taking us to 65 before we lost the reliable Mad's. From there, we were behind the game, chasing a run rate that was just a bit beyond us, and we lost wickets as a result.

All in all, we've had a great season. We've stared down a few challenges during the season, but making it to a Grand Final is an indicator of a team going in the right direction. We'll be back next year!

Grand Final: Summer Hill 129 def Ashfield CC 71

If there's a textbook on how to start a grand final, the mighty fourth division sure as hell hadn't read it.

Having lost the toss and been sent in to bat in overcast conditions, what seemed at one stage like a promising opening session soon turned disastrous. Both openers departed before the score had reached 30, and then a triple-wicket maiden had us reeling at 5-38 before drinks.

Thankfully, two batters saved their best innings of the season ‘til last: Gordon (57) and Samarth (21) put on a superb 65-run stand, batting throughout the second session without loss to put us right back in the fray at tea.

Unfortunately, just when the pair looked set to accelerate, the weather intervened, and lightning and then rain stopped play for nearly 90 minutes.

When we did get back on, it was a repeat of the first session. After Gordon brought up his half-century and the score crept past 100, another flurry of five wickets saw us bowled out, although some valuable late hitting from Andy (17, 16 of which came via boundaries) helped us up to a total of 129.

Not exactly the score you want in a season decider, but we all agreed: if we bowled to our best, it would just be enough.

As it turned out, it was plenty.

Tom put in an inspired performance, striking in the first over of the innings and twice more in the opening session to have ACC three down at the break, while at the other end, Hera (1-16 off nine) forced play-and-miss after play-and-miss.

That pressure deservedly paid off for him with a crucial wicket in the first over after drinks, breaking a partnership that could have taken the game away from us before it had got going.

By the end of Tom's 11-over opening spell, he had five wickets, and Blake (2-10 off five) added two more in as many overs before tea.

Andy (1-17 off 8) claimed the ninth scalp, before Tom finished off the match and the season to finish with 6-16 off 13 overs and seal a deserved grand final win.

6th Division Match Report

Preliminary Final: Summer Hill 107 def by Belmore Rovers 6/109

Coming into the Preliminary Final with lots of positiveness despite our Qualifying Final loss, we won the toss and decided to bat first. Overcast conditions were expected the late afternoon, so we wanted to avoid our bowlers contending with a wet ball.

We started with a new opening pair, Dharmin and Hamza. They started a bit slowly but runs ticked over without losing a wicket until Hamza was given out LBW with the team on 30.

Dharmin stuck at it, but no decent partnerships eventuated. He ran out of luck, falling for 37 in the 30th over with the score 5/68.

Eventually the overcast conditions arrived, with thunder and lightning interrupting the match for 45 minutes.

Even though it was a bit dark, the Umpires continued the match. Tarun had a nice cameo with a quick 15 runs, but we also lost 4 wickets just as quickly, finishing the day at 9/106. We'd be back on Sunday to continue our innings.

Day 2 started, and we only added 1 run for out last wicket.

In response, we started very effectively to have Belmore 4/40, thanks to wickets from Gourav, Aman and Hamza. The match was evenly balanced when we dropped a crucial catch. Belmore went on to get the next 78 runs only losing another 2 wickets.

Our bowlers put in a solid effort, pushing them to 42 overs, but we always knew defending 106 was going to be tough. We put up a great fight, but in the end we didnt have quite enough runs.

Overall, it was a great season for 6th Division, finishing the regular season at the top of the table. Thanks to all the boys for a great year, and we'll be back next year.
