It’s been a couple of weeks since our last update – with teams playing one day and two day games on different schedules it’s been difficult to get everything synced up.
We start that cycle again, with Div 1 on a Bye, Div 2 and 7 start 2 day matches, and Div 5 and 6 playing 1 day games – it’s hard to keep up!
Our newly formed Saturday morning team celebrated their first win in Round 1 – read on below for match details. Any afternoon players are able to join for the odd game – 2 games in one day makes for a pretty good Saturday!
Our Umpire Education Evening with Claire Polosak was well attended with 25 from our Club. 5 Senior players took the opportunity to brush up on their Laws of Cricket knowledge, and heard from Claire sharing her experiences from umpiring the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup Final.
Finally, Thanks to those who attended our AGM last Sunday afternoon. We had plenty of great updates to share, with Blasters and Juniors numbers doubling in the last 12 months, Seniors are CWSCA Club Champions off the back of Grand Final Wins in Div 2 and 3, and our Committee is invigorated with some new blood too.
One of our newest players, Braedan Smith-Connor, has taken on the role of Treasurer – thank you Braedan for stepping up taking up this challenge. The Seniors Vice President role is still vacant – if you are interested in finding out more about this role, please give me a call, or chat to me at training. New ideas are very welcome at Summer Hill!

Round 4: Summer Hill 105 & 2/89 def by Panania East Hills RSL 261
Summer Hill Fifth Grade had some lessons from the previous 2 matches – and thought they had learned them. Our batting needed some strength and determination, and our bowling needed to be more consistent. We were ready to step up and test ourselves again.
We didn’t bowl badly, we just let 1 batter get away, who went on to make 155 of their 261 runs. We would need to be at our best in Week 2 when we batted.
We started slowly which was OK, but eventually the collapse came, crashing from 3-32 to 6-32 in the blink of an eye. Asher (19) and Sid (31) steadied the ship, with Asher playing some fine lofted cover drives and Sid working the ball around nicely. In the end we were bowled out for a disappointing 105, and asked to bat again.
An outright loss was a real possibility, and new player to the club, Grant Murphy, played his best innings yet, posting a solid 45 not out, securing us a bonus point, and our resolute batting denying Panania one. If only we showed that mettle in the first innings. We will keep on learning.

Round 5: Summer Hill 81 def by Rangers CC 90
This was a game we had every right to win, until we didn’t. Our bowlers executed perfectly, with just 2 extras – our best effort this season. Our line and lengths were excellent, and what is required in this grade.
Rohan (2/21) got things going, taking out both openers, the 2nd going in the final over of his 7 over opening spell. Ably followed up by the controlled pace of Asher (2/26) and Lachie (1/15). But it was Rayhan’s left arm orthodox which did the damage again, tying down the batters with 4 wickets – thanks to 2 fine catches from Imran, a regulation one for Jud and a stumping from Simon to get him going. Pulok (1/6) rounded things off, with a terrific caught and bowled. Rangers all out for 90.
Our batters needed to take a leaf from Innings 2 last week, and protect their wicket and get it done. Sadly things didn’t go to plan as we suffered another collapse. Asher (16) and Rayhan (13) got us back on track, playing patient innings and punishing the odd bad ball. But the wickets fell steadily and heroics from Simon (15) and Craig (5) couldn’t get us over the line – ultimately falling 10 runs short.
We’ve learnt some tough bowling lessons, and now need to take heed of the batting ones. I know our best is good enough – we’ve got this boys!

Round 5: Summer Hill Blue 9/230 def Brighton Lakes 7/196
SHCC Blue 6th Division Triumphs with a 34-Run Victory over Brighton Lakes
After a couple of tough losses, the SHCC Blue team entered this match with a positive mindset, determined to enjoy the game and play their best cricket. Despite losing the toss and being sent in to bat first, our openers, Dharmin and Hamza, set a solid foundation.
Dharmin got us off to a flying start, hitting consecutive boundaries to put early pressure on the opposition. Hamza, on the other hand, played a cautious and steady game, setting himself up for a long innings. Dharmin's aggressive approach yielded a valuable 30 runs before he departed. Hamza then found solid support from Shaik, and together they built a resilient 66-run partnership. Hamza showed great determination, gradually picking up his scoring pace, while Shaik played a clinical knock before eventually departing.
Gourav stepped in seamlessly scoring second highest 37 runs after Shaik’s dismissal, forming another crucial partnership with Hamza, and the pair added 50 more runs to the tally. Despite a few quick wickets that put us under pressure, Muniraj and Anthony provided a late boost in the lower-middle order, adding a brisk 50 runs. Finally, Rahul and Jeet pushed the score past the 230-run mark, setting Brighton Lakes a challenging target.
Our batting performance was both clinical and mature, but the team’s energy didn’t stop there. We defended our total with disciplined bowling and tight fielding. Muniraj and Ben opened the bowling with precision, conceding only 23 runs in the first eight overs. Though Brighton Lakes tried to pick up the pace, Dharmin’s breakthrough with two quick wickets broke their long standing partnership. Umer then delivered an outstanding spell, taking 3 for 33, effectively curtailing their scoring rate and securing our grip on the game.
In the end, Brighton Lakes fell short by 34 runs, giving SHCC Blue a well-deserved victory. This win was particularly special as it showcased a complete team performance, led by Hamza with his second half-century and bolstered by key contributions from all batsmen. It was a match that displayed resilience, teamwork, and skill—a well-earned win for the SHCC Blue team!

Round 5: Summer Hill Gold 134 def Summer Hill Seniors 105
SHCC won the toss and decided to bat first. Zameer & Roland opened the innings. We had a slow start to the innings, losing Zameer in the 6th over of the innings and only 11 runs on the board. Another set back came when we lost Dan cheaply with only 24 on the board. While Roland was trying to stabilise the innings, another set back came when we lost Andy and Gaurav for just 1 run with SHCC in a sinking position of 4/48 at drinks.
Roland and Taquie then tried to stabilise the innings with the latter (Tarique), playing some handy shots to lift the scoring while Roland scored steadily. A 58 run partner ship ended when we lost Roland trying to play a big shot to increase the run rate. The hope of scoring a decent target vanished, with Tarique getting caught with 115 on board. Wickets kept on tumbling from there but, with the help of a few big shots from Ripple, we managed to reach a score of 134.
We started well with the ball but without much luck, keeping the run-rate in check without managing to find a breakthrough.
Then, just as Seniors were starting to open up and string some strong overs together before drinks, Tush snared the key wicket of their opener, beating him with the flight to have him stumped well short of his crease.
Still, with only one wicket and about 80 runs left to play with at the break, we were facing what looked like an uphill battle.
We needn't have worried.
With the very first ball after drinks, Andy castled the other opener, before two run-outs in quick time had Seniors well on the back foot.
Samarth and Tarique chipped in with key wickets through the middle overs - the former in part thanks to a cracking catch on the run from Sachin - to keep the pressure on.
Then, just as Seniors were threatening to get back within striking distance, Dan came back for his second spell and delivered a double-wicket-maiden, and Andy cleaned up the rest of the tail with two more wickets of his own the very next over, sealing our first win of the year.

Round 5: Summer Hill 7/92 def Panania East Hills RSL 91
SHCC 7th Grade Triumph Over Last Year’s 8th Division Premiers
In a thrilling display of grit and resilience, SHCC 7th grade clinched a memorable 3-wicket victory against the reigning 8th Division premiers, Panania, at Lees Fortress. The day saw outstanding bowling, sharp fielding, and some clutch batting that ultimately led us to chase down Panania’s modest total of 91.
Bowling Brilliance and Fielding Flair
Winning the toss, we put Panania into bat, and our bowlers immediately went to work. Declan Cohen, pushing through his recovery from chickenpox, proved to be a true warrior, bowling his heart out to take 2 for 12 and dislodge their danger left-hander. Declan wasn’t just done there – he backed it up with an invaluable 26 runs in a match-saving partnership with Jim Bandas.
Jim was sensational with the ball as well, picking up 2 wickets for just 6 runs, dismantling Panania’s top order early on alongside our opening bowlers. With early breakthroughs from Cohen and Jim, we managed to bowl out Panania inside 35 overs for 91, with PJ’s reflex run-out and Metry’s sharp stumping adding some serious highlights to the fielding effort. Special mention goes to Micah for an excellent catch square of the wicket and Leo Cirillo, whose day was nearly capped by a powerful shot that was unfortunately caught on the boundary.
Batting Comeback Led by Declan, Jim, and Leo
As usual, our batting didn’t get off to the strongest start, but it was Declan, Jim, and Leo who anchored the innings when we needed it most. Declan’s 26 was invaluable, while Jim’s resilience at the crease gave us stability. Leo also chipped in crucial runs despite the fierce Panania attack, which saw some impressive pace from their “tall timber.” The partnership between Declan and Jim ultimately saw us home, securing the win with 7 down.
With this win, we’ve now bowled out our opposition inside 35 overs for the third time. A huge team effort across the board – well done, SHCC 7s!

Round 6: Summer Hill 9/273 def Summer Hill Seniors 92 & 3/90
Result: Crushing Victory for Summer Hill on Day 2 of a 2-Day Match
After winning the toss, SHCC Lucky 7s batted first, posting an impressive 9/273 in 58 overs—a score that sets the team up well for a potential outright win.
The innings started modestly, with SHCC reaching 2/24 in the 9th over. A steady 65-run partnership between Kaustav Gupta (35) and Rob helped stabilize the team, allowing the middle order to accelerate. Both were eventually dismissed pushing the run rate along, making way for Micah Edwards.
Micah was due for a big score, and he delivered with a powerful 84. He took his time to settle in before dominating the bowlers, showing his class with some big hits—including a six that flew over the fence and into a neighbour’s yard, resulting in a lost ball. Kaustav also entertained with a six over the cow corner footpath, adding some style to his 35.
Michael Metry chipped in with a valuable 20, while Declan and Connor played handy cameos to keep the scoreboard moving. Micah’s partnership with Jim Bandas (27) added 90 runs to “ice the cake,” but their stand ended in a mix-up that saw Micah run out. Attempting a quick single, he lost his footing on the wet pitch and ended up flat on his back, missing a slim chance to scramble back to safety.
Jim continued for a few more overs, finding the boundary twice, before he was caught on the last delivery of the day.
In response to the Lucky 7s’ massive total of 273, the opposition was bundled out for a mere 92, with a superb display of bowling and catching setting the tone.
Declan struck early, dismissing the first two batsmen in the opening balls of the innings with catches that electrified the field.
Team manager Mishtie gave a special mention to PJ, who delivered an excellent 3–15 off nine consecutive overs, securing a solid spell while Mishtie managed a brief rest from fielding duties.
With the follow-on enforced, the SH Seniors came out swinging and attempted to score more aggressively losing three wickets for 90 runs for a bonus point each before an early stumps was declared.
Reflecting on team history, this marks our 9th season together since 2016-17, and there’s no doubt we are building a legacy.
A fantastic result and a brilliant all-round performance!

Combined Div 3/4 Saturday Morning Match Report - Phil Tarbox
Round 1: Summer Hill 5/119 def Democracy Manifest 118
The newest Summer Hill team stepped onto the field for the first time, with 4 players making their Summer Hill CC debut – welcome to Noel Khan, Josh Mortimer, David Isaacs and Kim Cambpell.
Our opening bowlers set about their work, holding back the run rate, but not taking any wickets. It was Josh Mortimer with the breakthrough, thanks to a sharp catch from David at fine leg – we were off. Josh was inspired by David’s catch that he took 4 of his own. Shaun Hardy continued his strong Winter Cricket form, his tidy off spin yielding 3/10 from 7 overs, ably supported by Noel Khan (2/7) and David Isaacs (1/15) adding to the first wicket for Summer Hill Club. Pulok was ever reliable with 2/4 from 4 overs. Democracy bowled out for 118.
We had a few overs to face at the end of the day, and were looking a little shaky at 3/19 after 6 overs. Khurram (19) and Saikat (33) saw us until stumps – we would return to Beaman 1 next week – or would we??
Mid week the Beaman 1 pitch had become covered in oil and was unplayed, so the match moved to Moore Park, with much smaller boundaries. It wouldn’t have made a difference, as Democracy Manifest were missing many of their players from Day 1, and took to the field with 8 players. David Isaacs showed us what he told us – I value my wicket, with a very solid 5 not out, with Phil (33*) hitting the winning runs after just 22 overs.
A Summer Hill scratch match followed, with those who missed out on a bat spending some time in the middle.
A great start to the season – well done boys, and welcome to the Summer Hill.
